Advancing the use of network-based communications and media to broaden access to information that enables people to enrich their lives through web and mobile technology. He is particularly interested in the social impacts of the digital transformation of media, and their impact on the publishing industry.
He frequently serves as a strategic advisor member for publishing efforts, including the Collaborative Knowledge Foundation; the University of California Press; the American Geophysical Union; and the Rebus Foundation. He currently serves on the steering committee for the RA21 resource access project. He has previously advised Project MUSE of The Johns Hopkins University; the American Association of University Presses; and the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses. He consults with UC Irvine Law School’s IP Clinic on DMCA exemptions for the use of media in ebooks.
